Dear visitor, Welcome to this site. Here you find some information about myself. The top-menu ACTIVITIES provides monthly updated information on lectures, research, publications, and other academic news. 1) Short resumés in English and Dutch are available at the end of this introduction. 2) A 3-page curriculum is available as "Curriculum Aviel Verbruggen" 3) "Sustainable Energy Research" recalls the essential aspects and goal of Sustainable Development, and provides an overview of the six energy and environmental research topics I have been working on. Every topic is covered further by one of the six MAIN MENUS of this site. 4) The "List of publications" mentions all academic and consultancy work since 1975. The list is updated twice a year. The formal list of academic publications is maintained with some delay by the library staff of the University of Antwerp (http://www.ua.ac.be/main.aspx?c=aviel.verbruggen) When you want to communicate on some point, click CONTACT. Aviel Verbruggen English Résumé: Aviel Verbruggen (°1949), Energy & Environmental Economist. Professor University of Antwerp Trained in engineering and applied economics at Leuven, Antwerp and Stanford University. Founder of research and advisory units: STEM, REGASA, CENERGIE. Conceived, supervised and edited the State of the Environment Reports {MIRA} in Flanders (1993-98); first president of Flanders’ Environmental Advisory Council {MiNa-Raad} (1991-95). Member IPCC: Third, Fourth and Fifth Assessment Reports, Working Group III: Mitigation and Adaptation (1998-2014). Lead Author, Special Report on Renewable Energy (2009-11). The research focuses on international climate policies (architecture, instruments like emissions trading and budget reform), and on energy transitions and the role of nuclear power, fossil fuels, and renewable energy at the supply side. Cogeneration is a topic considered occasionally. Study of conceptual issues (like irreversibility) is necessary to improve societal decision-making.
